{"id":37,"date":"2012-11-30T21:53:42","date_gmt":"2012-12-01T05:53:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/?p=37"},"modified":"2022-11-21T13:53:39","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T21:53:39","slug":"delicious-delicious-pot-pie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/2012\/11\/30\/delicious-delicious-pot-pie\/","title":{"rendered":"Delicious, Delicious Pot Pie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, we make pot pie on a regular basis, but I think this one wins. \u00a0Here&#8217;s what we did:<\/p>\n<p>First, I harvested some kale, rosemary, and peas from the garden. \u00a0I also grabbed some carrots from our farm box, and a potato and an onion we had lying around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0036.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-38\" title=\"Veggies!\" src=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0036-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0036-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0036-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0036-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0036.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I chopped everything up, boiled the potato, carrot, and peas, and sauteed the kale. \u00a0I then chopped up some chicken and sauteed it with the onion and rosemary.<\/p>\n<p>The veggies went into a baking dish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0039.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-39\" title=\"Veggies ready to be a pot pie.\" src=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0039-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0039-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0039-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0039-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0039.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then I mixed the chicken in with the veggies. \u00a0Next, I made a roux with 1\/2 cup butter, 1\/2 cup flour, and then added almond milk until it looked right. \u00a0The texture was a little weird &#8212; more like a dough than a sauce, but once I mixed it up with the veggies and chicken, it worked out totally fine. \u00a0If I had to guess, I&#8217;d say I used maybe a cup of almond milk, but I definitely didn&#8217;t measure.<\/p>\n<p>I then topped it with a pie crust that Matt made. \u00a0I believe the crust had butter, water, flour, and some herbs.<\/p>\n<p>I popped the whole thing in the oven at 400 degrees for ~40 minutes, and it came out golden and delicious.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0043.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-40\" title=\"Pot Pie\" src=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0043-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0043-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0043-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0043-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bornski.com\/maria\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMAG0043.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I will\u00a0<strong>definitely<\/strong> make pot pie this way again. \u00a0In the past, we&#8217;ve made the crust with shortening, and we haven&#8217;t mixed the milk in with the roux. \u00a0Using a butter crust and mixing the milk (well, almond milk) into the roux were definitely good choices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, we make pot pie on a regular basis, but I think this one wins. \u00a0Here&#8217;s what we did: First, I harvested some kale, rosemary, and peas from the garden. \u00a0I also grabbed some carrots from our farm box, and a potato and an onion we had lying around.
